Valium and nitrous oxide in Colorado

If the patient takes valium one hour before coming in to the office can we still use nitrous oxide in the same appointment or is that considered multi-agent sedation in Colorado?

    Thanks,

    Dr. Trent Redfearn

    Dr. Redfearn,

Under the current regulation, a single agent plus nitrous (or 2 oral agents) is considered conscious sedation and requires a permit. You can use Anxiolysis protocols from Chapter 8 #1, 2, and 4 in your OSD manual. It's a lame rule, but the board is in the process of changing it.
